There are 2 school
systems in Asheville, North Carolina. The Buncombe
County School system and the Asheville City School
system. Both offer advanced placement courses,
honors programs, and classes for the academically
gifted as well. Most schools in each system offer
after-school childcare and all elementary schools
offer after-school care.
There is a five member Board of Education that
directs the Asheville City School system that
is appointed by the City Council A seven member
Board of Education directs the Buncombe County
School system.
The University
of North Carolina at Asheville offers undergraduate
liberal arts degrees and is rated as one of the
top 6 public arts universities in the entire nation.
UNC-A also offers additional graduate programs
through the Asheville Graduate Center on the campus.
Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College
offers pre-baccalaureate programs and technical
programs in allied health and public service education,
engineering and applied technology, business and
hospitality education and arts and sciences.
Warren Wilson is a private liberal atrs college
that offers 31 majors and concentrations that
include the college's Master of Fine Arts program
in creative writing, which ranks among the top
20 nationwide. The campus is located in beautiful
country just east of Asheville.
